Why Microsoft 365 needs its own security layer

Hundreds of settings, built for convenience

Microsoft 365 holds your email, files, Teams chats and sign-ins. It ships with hundreds of settings, and the defaults favour convenience over safety. The breaches we see most often in Queensland businesses start here: a legacy sign-in protocol left on, a mailbox quietly forwarding to Gmail, a guest link to a folder nobody remembers.

Somebody has to keep checking

Microsoft gives you the tools. Somebody still has to check them, every day, and put them back when they drift.

Learn more about the console

What we check, every night

We built our own Microsoft 365 security console rather than relying on a vendor dashboard. Every Managed Secure tenant runs through it nightly.

CIS Microsoft 365 Foundations Benchmark: 100 automated checks across identity, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, Defender, Intune and Purview, measured against a published, recognised benchmark. You see the score, what passed, what didn’t, and what changed since last month.

What you receive

Four documents built from the same live data, each for a different reader. You start with the first; the rest follow as the work moves.

1. Microsoft 365 Security Report

The technical evidence. Every Microsoft 365 setting measured live, with what we measured, what we recommend and where to confirm it in your own portals, plus your Secure Score and CIS benchmark results. Each issued report is kept, so the next one shows what changed. Every change we make in your tenant is logged with who, what, when, and the setting before and after.

For: you and your auditor or insurer’s assessor. When: monthly, and at onboarding. Your free audit is this report, run on your tenant before we first meet.

2. Security roadmap

The plan. Every finding becomes a dated action with an owner, quick wins first. It updates itself from each new report, so finished work stays finished and you can see progress since last quarter.

For: your management team, no technical background needed. When: walked through with you at your quarterly review.

3. Insurance readiness

The twelve questions on a typical cyber insurance proposal form — sign-in protection, backups, threat detection, email filtering, admin access, logging and staff training — answered yes, partial or no from your live tenant data, with the evidence attached.

For: your broker or insurer, and whoever fills in the renewal form. When: before renewal or a new quote.

4. Cybersecurity Review

The whole picture in one document: your Microsoft 365 results together with your Essential Eight computer results, application control and backups.

For: your yearly review, tenders and Defence Industry Security Program evidence. When: once a year, or when a tender asks for proof.

Learn more about our approach

How this is different

  • Every night, not once a year: A security audit is a photograph. This is a camera that never switches off.
  • Fixed, not just reported: Where a setting has a safe, known fix, we apply it and tell you. Where it needs a conversation, we book one.
  • Evidence you can hand to your insurer: Scores and settings are exported straight from your tenant, dated, and tied to a recognised benchmark.
  • Built in-house: The console is ours. When Microsoft changes a setting or the benchmark moves, we update the checks ourselves, not at the next contract renewal.

Included in Managed Secure

There is no add-on and no per-user fee. Microsoft 365 security management is part of the Managed Secure plan at $110 per PC per month, alongside application control, DNS filtering and Essential Eight evidence reports.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most checks work on any business plan. Defender for Office 365, Intune and Entra ID P1 features need Business Premium or the matching add-on. The console tells you which controls your licence doesn’t cover rather than marking them as failures.

Baseline settings you’ve agreed to are kept in place automatically. Anything with a user-facing effect is measured first and applied only after you approve.

No. The Essential Eight covers your computers and processes; this covers your Microsoft 365 tenant. Managed Secure includes both, and the evidence lands in one pack.

We check Copilot’s web-grounding setting and list any consumer AI apps that staff have connected to your tenant, so your data stays inside Microsoft 365.

Through your Microsoft 365 Security Report, issued monthly and walked through with you at your quarterly review. Insurance-readiness answers and Essential Eight evidence are issued the same way.
